Getting Started

Is MaltaList free to use?

Yes! Browsing listings and creating an account is completely free. Posting ads is also free during our launch period (first 2 months). After that, we'll introduce affordable packages starting from €2.99 for 10 days.

Do I need an account to browse listings?

No — you can browse all listings, search, and view businesses without signing in. However, you'll need an account to contact sellers, post ads, or save favourite items.

How do I create an account?

Click Sign In in the top right corner, then Sign Up. You can register with your email address or use your Google account for instant access.

Why do I need to verify my email?

Email verification helps us:

  • Protect against spam and fake accounts
  • Send you important notifications about your listings
  • Recover your account if you forget your password

Posting Ads

How do I post my first ad?

After signing in, click Post Ad in the top right corner. Follow the 4-step wizard:

  1. Choose a category
  2. Add details (title, description, price, location)
  3. Upload photos (1–20 photos)
  4. Review and publish
How many ads can I post per day?

You can post up to 5 listings per 24 hours. If you delete a listing, that slot becomes available again immediately. For business accounts with higher limits, contact us at support@maltalist.mt.

What's the difference between Basic, Standard, and Premium?
  • Basic (€2.99): Your ad stays live for 10 days
  • Standard (€3.99): 14 days — Most popular!
  • Premium (€7.99): 30 days + your ad appears at the top of the category
How do I add good photos?
  • Use natural lighting (daylight is best)
  • Show your item from multiple angles
  • The first photo is the most important — make it eye-catching
  • Maximum 20 photos per listing
  • Supported formats: JPG, PNG, WEBP (auto-compressed)
What makes a good description?
  • Be specific: size, condition, key features
  • Mention what's included in the price
  • State if delivery or pickup is available
  • Use proper grammar — avoid ALL CAPS
  • Minimum 10 characters, maximum 5,000

Managing Listings

What happens when my listing expires?

After your package duration (10, 14, or 30 days), the listing automatically moves to the Expired tab in your profile. Other users won't see expired listings in browse or search. You can re-publish any time.

How do I re-publish an expired ad?

Go to My Listings → Expired tab. You have two options:

  • Quick Re-publish: 1-click with same details and package
  • Edit & Re-publish: Update details before going live again
Can I end my listing early?

Yes! Click End Listing on any active ad in My Listings. It moves immediately to the Expired tab and won't be visible to other users.

How do I delete a listing permanently?

In My Listings, click Delete on the listing. This action is permanent and cannot be undone. Note: deleted listings don't count toward your daily posting limit — the slot is freed immediately.

My listing isn't showing in search. Why?

Possible reasons:

  • Listing is still being indexed — wait 1–2 minutes after publishing
  • Your description doesn't include the search terms being used
  • The listing has expired or was ended manually
  • Category or subcategory doesn't match active search filters

Buying & Contacting Sellers

Why do I need to sign in to see contact details?

We hide contact details from non-signed-in visitors to protect sellers from spam and build a trusted community. It only takes 30 seconds to sign up — and it's free!

How do I contact a seller?

Once signed in, on any listing detail page you'll see the seller's available contact options:

  • Phone — tap to call directly
  • WhatsApp — opens a chat with a pre-filled message
  • Email — opens your email app
Can I save listings to view later?

Yes! Click the heart ❤️ icon on any listing card or on the detail page. View all saved items in your profile under Saved Items.

Is it safe to meet sellers in person?

Yes, but always follow these safety tips:

  • Meet in public places (cafes, shopping centres, car parks)
  • Bring a friend if possible
  • Inspect the item before paying
  • Never pay a deposit without seeing the item first
  • Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, walk away

Account & Profile

How do I change my display name?

Go to Profile → Display Name, make your changes, then click Save Changes. The new name appears on all your listings and in the header.

How do I change my password?

Go to Profile → Change Password section. This is only available for email/password accounts. If you signed up with Google, manage your password through your Google Account settings.

I forgot my password — what now?

Click "Forgot password?" on the login page. Enter your email address and we'll send a reset link. Check your spam folder if you don't see it within a few minutes.

Can I change my email address?

For security reasons, the email address is fixed after account creation. If you need to change it, contact us at support@maltalist.mt.

How do I delete my account?

In Profile, scroll to Danger Zone and click Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, all listings (active and expired), and saved items. This action cannot be undone.

Safety, Trust & Privacy

How do I avoid scams?

Watch out for these red flags:

  • Prices that seem too good to be true
  • Sellers who refuse to meet in person
  • Requests for advance payment via Western Union or PayPal Friends
  • Poorly written descriptions or stolen photos
  • Pressure to act immediately or risk losing the deal

Trust your instincts!

How do I report a suspicious listing?

On any listing page, click the "Report this listing" button below the contact details. Tell us why it's suspicious. Our team reviews all reports within 24 hours.

Who can see my phone number?

Only signed-in users can see your phone number, WhatsApp, and email. Search engines and visitors who are not logged in cannot see your contact details. You also control which contact methods are displayed when posting.

How is my data protected?
  • All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS)
  • Passwords are securely hashed — we never see them
  • We don't sell your personal data to third parties
  • You can delete your account and all data at any time
Why was my listing blocked?

Listings may be blocked for prohibited items (weapons, drugs, etc.), offensive content, duplicate posts, misleading information, or copyright violations. We'll email you with the reason. You can appeal at support@maltalist.mt.
